Cross country skiing is a sport. It involves the traversing of snowy terrain on skis. Unlike skis made for downhill skiing, cross country skis allow the skier to lift their heel, enabling one to walk across flat terrain or move uphill. Along with biathlon, ski jumping, and Nordic combined, it is part of the Nordic family of events at the Winter Olympics.
